Deployment Solution

Ok so first wasnt sure where to put this so will put it here..

When we installed Altiris 7.1 a ways back I noticed there was Ghost for deployment solution. We have now gone to 7.5 and going 7.6 and I still see ghost on the server....

my question is simple..

Legally - what is the licensing for using ghost? if you pay for CMS maintenance - is there a document somewhere on the machine or should I contact our rep?

If you have CMS licensing, that includes Deployment Server which includes Ghost. This means you are legally entitled to use Ghost on the machines you manage with CMS. The licensing is machine based.

This means you can't for example buy 1 CMS license, get the Ghost binary, and then use Ghost to deploy 1000 machines.

When we enquired about this the cost effective solution was to buy a DS site license (to ensure we were legal to machine every machine with Ghost if we wanted -whether from DS or not) and then buy CMS specifically for the machines we fully manage.

Does that make sense?

Totally makes sense and I kinda figured on that line. Just needed clarification that my thoughts were on the right track!
