I just tried to create an image with a SSD and it failed.

Originally I started with a non-SSD that had the virtual ghost console partition.  It images just fine, then I migrated the entire OS to a SSD using Intel Data Migration Software which came with the SSD.  Lastly I attempted to create an image of the SSD and it failed.  Does anyone know what can be causing the failure?  Perhaps Ghost is not compatible with SSD?

One item that might be worth mentioning is that the original HDD was 250GB and the new SSD is 160GB capacity.  The Intel Data Migration Software stated moving from a larger drive to a smaller drive is fine as long as the data does not exceed the capacity (in my case it didn't).  I'm wondering if the application shrinking the OS to a smaller drive might be interferring how Ghost see's the drive .  I'm tyring to avoid having to wipe the SSD clean and reinstalling everything.  We have a lot application's installed on each workstation with custom settings (very tedious).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SSDs present a SATA interface that's basically identical to the one provided by a magnetic disk, and there's no compatibility issue with Ghost in that sense. Whatever the root cause of your particular case is, a good starting point for determining that depends entirely on the specifics of what "it failed" actually is supposed to mean.

    1) what is the version of Ghost?

    2) What is Pre-OS used?

Ghost 11.5.1.2266 (2.5.1) supports SSD drives and best practice is to use WINPE 2.0 which is based on Vista Kernel.

Please specify exactly what error message(s) you received.

Are you using WinPE 2 with the correct Vista 32 bit drivers for your SATA chipset? (WinPE 2 is based on the Vista kernel).

One other possibility is that the Intel Data Migration Software is creating a partition type which Ghost does not recognise.

However, if you are imaging Windows 7 - are you imaging both partitions? Windows 7 needs both its partitions to be imaged if it is to boot correctly.

    I'm using 2.5.1 and Pre-OS 2.0.  I created the Pre-OS via the Boot Wizard.

I pasted the Event Log below:

As you can see this does not really tell me much as to why it failed.

There was not any details to the error, it just shows "failed".  Please see attached.

I did resolve the issue by increasing my storage space for the images.  I had roughly 300GB of space available, I increased to 500GB, tried to capture again and it worked.  I checked to see how much space the image was and it was only 20GB.  Does not make sense to me but I'm back in business.

This is likely to be another limitation of DOS which only has 32 bits to address the hard disk and thus is technically limited to a partition size of around 132Gb. Since DOS uses CHS rather than LBA addressing, the perceived structure of your disk may have caused DOS to run out of space on the smaller size as it can only address a part of it.
