We're trying to set up a Ghost server using the Ghost Console and have run into an issue with clients on a different subnet than the Ghost Console - some of these clients are on a different domain as well. On the console, we are able to remotely install the Ghost client software to the machine, regardless of their subnet location, and they appear in the network list and we are able to create a backup regime for them. However, when we attempt to create a backup image for the remote machine from the console, if the target client is on a different subnet than the console, the backup procedure always fails. Before failing, the target client does its system restart to initiate the backup procedure. The event log claims the remote machine times out after restarting the computer. After we get the error message about the time out, we are able to ping the console from the client, and vice versa, so it seems like all communication between the two machines is fine. Are there any suggestions as to what we can do to fix this issue?

The Ghost Console is installed on a WD DX4000 SAN running Server 2008 R2 Essentials.

The clients range from Win 2k - Win 7, but the issue seems to be more network related and not determined by client OS.

If the clients gets an IP under the PREOS and still times out,it could be that specific ports used for image transfer might be blocked.Check the article mentioned below,
