Ghost Solution Suite

Hopefully I got this in the right area.

I've updated Ghost Solution Suite to 2.5 and am running it on Windows Server 2008 R2. When trying to both create an image or restore an image, all of my newer PCs will boot through the NIC and give me the standard menus (multicast, etc). But when it comes time to actually create or restore the image, the PC fails to contact the server. This happens on Dell Optiplex 980s and up. 755s and below work fine. Likewise, the problem happens with all of our newer laptops as well.

I can get around this issue by creating or restoring the image in an older machine but I'm not sure this will work for our laptops and, well, it frankly is a pain in the neck. Does anyone else have this issue and, if so, have you found a solution?

    Thanks!

What is the Pre-OS you are using?

    * If its WINPE I would recommend you to update the latest drivers to WINPE boot package. Some times it also might be issue with Hardware (SATA drivers).

So make sure while creating boot package using Win PE both NIC and SATA drivers are added for WIndows Vista 32 bit as WINPE 2.0 is based on Vista Kernel....

I am indeed using WINPE. I have downloaded and added all NIC and SATA drivers that I know of and placed them in the winpe_x86\mount\windows folder. I downloaded them from driverpacks.net. I copied the files themselves over (ignoring folders and dumping all files into the same folder).

I'm a bit new at this and am working off instructions a coworker has given me and he is having the same problem.

    Clarification:

"winpe_x86\mount\windows folder" - I think you are referring to the WinPE boot ISO created using MDT. You will have to use the Ghost Boot Wizard to add the NIC and SATA Drivers, then create a WinPE boot CD/USB using this wizard.

Make sure that you download and add the Vista 32 bit drivers to the WinPE - no matter what OS you are trying to image.

Gkg is correct WINPE which is included with GSS 2.5.1 is 2.0 Version which is light version of Windows Vista 32 bit.

Best practice is add the drivers using Ghost Boot Wizard by selecting WINPE and edit it.

...but I'm not sure I even know enough about it to actually do any of that. Is there a KB article on it? Would this mean I'd have to use a CD to ghost the machines instead of using the server?
