  • 1.  Ghost64 throwing an error in DS 7.6

I've been having a problem with DS 7.6; I have a ticket open with Symantec that they're supposedly working on, but I'm curious as to if anyone else here has experienced this. Here we go:

    - Brand-new fresh install of DS 7.6 with no package server, single-server installation with only 500 clients, but MS SQL 2014 Express on a separate server. Both servers are running Windows Server 2012 R2.

    - Whenever I try to create or deply an image, Ghost64.exe throws the following error:

    ghost_error.png

...after which the image deploys perfectly. After some quality phone time with Symantec, it appears that HTTPS is failing and the system is failing back to UNC. "Just hit OK" is not a solution, since I'd like this to *work properly*, and hitting OK is not an option for imaging a 45-station computer lab or for situations where I'm not physically present at the computer being imaged.

This happens every time, without fail, whenever I try to create an image, deploy an image from the automation folder (I don't use PXE), or deploy an image from a boot .iso created with Bootwiz.

Has anyone else seen this or has a solution?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I would suggest to check the "ghost" error logs (2files) in automation:

    - before clicking "OK" if possible, open the command prompt minimized on the bottom left of the screen.

    - locate the log files at       X:\program files\symantec\deployment\logs\

With more info on the ghost error it could be easier to locate the issue.

Has anyone figured this out ?

I have the exact same error.

I'm attaching the files in x:\program files\symantec\deployment\logs before pressing OK

In my case we're going to use DS for a massive rollout (2.5 k computers) and it'd be nice not to have these errors :|

    Cheers,

    -Miguel

We just upgraded to 7.6 over the weekend. Same issue for us, as well. Ghost throws that error trying to use HTTPS, hit OK, and it uses UNC instead.

We happen to have a pre-boot environment from 7.5 that we can still use, and that build of Ghost64.exe runs fine. Our desktop engineers tried using the older Ghost build and it works fine with HTTPS.

Version 12.0.0.6279 - works fine with HTTPS.

Version 12.0.0.7031 - throws up an exception dialog and fails to UNC.

I'm also getting this error on a remotely fresh 7.6 install just to contribute to the effected list.  Any one who has a fix sharing it here would be most appreciated.

We upgraded to 7.6 HF2 this weekend. We're also seeing this issue. However, ours just errors and then stops.

    Hello,

Just this past week, I had the exact same error message when imaging some Win7 PC's and our server platform of choice at the moment is Win 2008 R2 due to failures we had with 2012. In our case the imaging just stops and will not continue when "OK" is clicked.

The other thing that happened that was a bit disconcerting, was that upon rebooting the Ghost server OS for routine work, upon rebooting, the console was not able to connect to the Ghost Database, which was in fact there. The datamgr.exe file and one other I can not think of, were not there so I had to do a reinstall.

I forgot to add that the paackage here is GSS 3.0 ver 1246.

I have 250 PC's to image, and these errors are getting to be a bit much.

We have the same problem here, but just clicking ok is not a solution for us since the image deployment stops after the error message.

Our "solution" (fix) this far was to add a script to our deployment jobs that replaces ghost64.exe in windows pe ("x:\program files\symantec\deployment\ghost\ghost64.exe") with an older version before the image deployment task runs.
