  • 1.  GhostCast Server 7.5 to current upgrade question

Hi, I'm new to the ghost community so thanks in advance for your patience.

My company has a working ghostcast 7.5 server in place with several laptop images we maintain for deployment purposes.

We don't do anything fancy, straight and simple usb boot, connect to ghostcast 7.5 session and pull or push the image.

We are interested in upgrading the ghost server to make better use of current technology and my question is this:  Is there an upgrade path or should I just install current Ghost server version and if I go with option #2 will my .gho images still work ok?  Like I said, i'm new to ghost so help me think of anything else I haven't considered yet so this can be a smooth transition.  If this topic has been covered well else where please provide links.

     Hello,

You should be able to install the new version over your current version, but an uninstall of that version first would be best.. And all your existing images will work just fine. The current executables have backwards compatibility with images from that version.

    Thank you,

    Randy

Cool, thanks Randall, what about the bootable usb stick, will that still connect to the new ghost server version or will I need to make a new one?  Or does it work on pxe boot instead of usb booting?
