    Hey Guys,

Sorry to be a pain again.....

    Another network this time.

I am using Ghost Console that is installed on the server. I am trying to install the Client files to a pc that is not on a domain but is on a workgroup

When I try to install the files it fails saying error logon.

I have entered the right username and password because this is the username and password I use to log onto the computer.

Does anyone know why I cannot ghost from a Domain to a workgroup??

    Thanks in advance

    Karl

I believe remote client install should work whether your client is in a domain or a workgroup. what is the OS for your client?

Client is Windows XP. With firewall turned off.

You can type in the remote client the workgroup and the pc name of the machine but then it asks you for the username and password so you type that in then when you try to install it, it says on the logs that the login as failed.

Even though the username is right, dont need a password, as the machine doesnt have one.

If the client is Windows XP, make sure that "Use Simple File Sharing" is off (open any folder, choose "Tools" then "Folder Options...", then the "View" tab, then scroll down to the bottom of the list of settings to make this option visible and make sure the tickbox is off.

Basically, "Simple File Sharing" is set up so that every person who connects to your machine becomes a "Guest" rather than being able to authenticate properly. Since the remote install system needs to a) write files, and b) configure the machine to run the install package, it needs the ability to authenticate as an admin - something that the "Simple" sharing system doesn't allow.

    Hi Karl,
I believe your problem can be solved by making sure the user name has a password set (ie. non blank password).
There is a windows XP security setting called "Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only" in selpol.msc, under Local Policies -> Security Options.
When the setting is enabled (which it is by default on XP), you can not logon to the remote machine with a blank password.

    Cheers

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for your post.

You could be right since we have had problems before with RDC with the user not having a password.

I will try this out but i am guessing you are right on this one.

    Kind Regards

    Karl
