Ghosting Windows 7 with Ghost 11.5

Good Morning,

We are currently starting to add more laptops to our network that have Windows 7.

I am curious to see if there is a good flow process when creating a image, using Ghost 11.5, on a laptop that has Windows 7.  We currently have Windows XP Pro on all of our laptops and desktops, but well soon be migrating them to Windows 7.  Any help would be on this and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Supported as of build 11.5.1.2266

Windows 7 is fully supported as of build 11.5.1.2266. Make sure that the LiveUpdates for Ghost are ran, and you are all set. You should use the same method for Ghosting these as you do with Windows XP machines.

Thank you,

Successfull in Imaging, but an issue

Good Morning Randall,

I was able to get a successfull image drop onto a HP 2740P laptop.  Now, when I boot up the machine, is it stating that Windows failed to boot.

It is giving me the error that "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

For Windows 7 Pro, is there anything that needs to be done differently, when creating an image?

I know XP Pro, you can copy and drop an image without have this error.  I know Windows 7 has a boot or may have a boot sector, this is why I ask.

Thank you,

In case of any Liveupdate issues....

In case of any Liveupdate issues check out this thread:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/gss25-not-updating-live-update

This will give you another route to bring your environment up to build 2266.

There are also recent separate threads (with 200+ posting counts) that provide access to a patch to bring you up to 2269. You can read about the issues fixed in this patch in the threads so I won't cover old ground here.

If your issue has been solved, please use the "Mark as Solution" link on the most relevant thread.

GSS Update

Is there a certain way that the GSS needs to run a LiveUpdate?

We have the GSS installed, along with EndPoint Protection ver.11.0.1000.1375.

If I run a live update, will this also detect the GSS software and perform a live update on both?

Or, as I read through that forum thread that you sent me, I saw that they have been sent a link or a update pack that may update GSS.  The version I am using is GSS ver. 2.5

Thank you

Check build

Hello,

Open the Ghost Console and go to Help > About. The version should be 11.5.1.2266. If not, then choose Help > Live Update. If that does not pull the update, reply to this post. I am the one who typically responds to the requests on the other thread anyway.

Thank you,

Try Liveupdate first and if

Try Liveupdate first and if it does not update you to build 2266 then make yourself known in the thread I mentioned.

WIndows 7 Ghosting issues

What should the proper steps be in Ghosting a Windows 7 Professional machine.

Right now, I have an image on our Ghost Server, but when I go to drop the image onto a laptop it stops and gives me an error stating that "It has lost connection with the server".

Not sure, if it is due to the Device configuration, between AHCI or IDE settings?  I can iamge other machines without issue, but when it comes to Windows 7 it is giving me a little greef.

I also want to add that when I drop the image onto our Ghost Server, for some reason it is taking close to an hour and 15 minutes to drop.  I think there maybe an issue, but not quite sure.

A windows 7 image tends to be

A windows 7 image tends to be quite large, certainly a lot larger than an XP image, so could this be the reason for the 75 minute drop time?  The other thing to check is that the NIC is connecting at 100Mbps or higher and not 10Mbps

Ghost will not update

I am getting errors when downloading the update through Live Update. Can you send me the links for downloading the updates up to build 2266? Thank you!
