Global Dedup across individual NetBackup 5200s?

Created: 13 Oct 2012 | 1 comment

My question is this....

If I ran an RMAN backup that has multiple channels...say 8 or 16....from a policy pointed to a Storage Unit Group consisting of three NetBackup 5200 Media servers in it and those three servers will also serve as the destination disk pools....will they each be aware of each other`s data for purpose of Deduplication?

My hunch is no, since the job is coming over in chunks across different channels...but I want to make sure.  I know that sending it to a 5020 SPA would be more ideal since it would be the SPA and multiple CRs acting as one individual disk pool.

Can someone please clear this up for me? Thanks!

Each 52xx appliance is in essence a MSDP.

There is no global dedupe across different MSDP's....

You are right - only 5000-series appliances provide global dedupe: http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-netbackup_7-5_intelligent_deduplication_OV_21224070.en-us.pdf
