I have a couple issues with the toolbar in Google Chrome and was wondering if anybody else ran into this and aware of a fix.

    Google Chrome version 39.0.2171.95

    1. Although the toolbar icon shows up, there is no toolbar.

    2. Memory usage of the extension is insanely high and does not release after closing all Chrome windows. The Chrome Task Manager is currently reporting the extension at 860MB and 25-28% CPU utilization.

I am thinking about uninstalling the toolbar extension. In doing so, will I still be protected while browsing the web with Chrome?

    Machine specs:

    i7-3520M @ 2.9GHz

    8GB RAM

    Win 7 Pro SP1 64-bit

Is it the norton identity safe toolbar?

You will still be protected from threats

It is not the Identity Safe. It is the Norton Security Toolbar.

So this toolbar protects against things like phishing, verifies websites, encrypts personal info such as credit/debit cards.

Without this you miss this protection.

You're still protected from various threats though.

This toolbar is more for protecting against data loss:

I think I will uninstall the extension for now. The memory usage is just too high and steadily climbs with no signs of ever decreasing. I found a similar thread reporting same issue with add-on for Firefox. I will have to wait for Symantec to release an update to the extension.

It is an extra layer of protection. But uninstalling it won't leave you completely unprotected.

I am seeing the same issue - within a few hours of starting up Chrome, it's up to nearly a gigabyte of memory on one process and 750MB on another - when I kill those processes it's Norton Security Toolbar and Norton Identity Safe that are sucking down the memory.

    Same version of Chrome, BTW.

May also want to check the Norton community to see if there are issues:

Chrome has its own task manager so you don't have to guess.

    Shift+Esc
