GSS 2 Bootable DVD containing ghost image

Does anyone have any advice on how best to save an existing ghost image to a dvd that can be booted from and restore the ghost image to the computer.
I hope to be able to create an emergency repair disk with the latest ghost image available without having to use Ghost to create the bootable DVD

You could try creating a BartPE bootable DVD with the Ghost Plugin and add the image file into the ISO that it creates.
What we've done in the past with no network connections was boot the PC with Bart and launch Ghost. Then when it asks for the image location I have another CD(s) that contains the image and insert that into the CD-ROM drive.

I have been able to create a bootable CD from Ghost Solution Suite 2 but a bit surprised that this update to solution suite doesn't allow you to package an existing ghost image on a dvd or multiple cds.

Do you have a link to the BartPE addin you are talking about?
I downloaded BartPE and started to follow the instructions for ghost but couldn't locate ghostcdr.dll in the folder but found the rest of the files

I'm interested in the possibility of this as well. Hopefully someone from Symantec will notice this post and reply.

    Thanks

The easiest way I have done this is to just make a bootable floppy that is basically a win 98 startup disk (with CDROM support) and you just hijack the autoexec.bat at the appropriate place.  If you have a SATA CD/DVD then you will need something I found GCDROM.SYS to be able to install a CDROM driver for it.  I DL'd it for free last year some time.  I would recommend a re-writeable until you perfect the CD.   Using nero or Roxio you can then start a new project that is a bootable CD/DVD and choose the floppy as your source for the boot sector.  and then put ghost and whatever files you need ie... ghconfig.exe or ghstwalk etc... along with the image file in to the CD project.

You can then via your autoexec commands (after it loads mscdex) execute ghost off of the CD drive letter and give it whatever commands you want.

One caviat though, I have only done this with CD's not DVD's but the principles should be the same.

Does anyone know if its possible to use the .iso file ghost boot wizard creates as a starting point and edit its contents using nero or similar software to add the ghost image to it.

At least that way you are starting with a CD you know will boot into ghost

Basically when you launch the PEBuilder.exe, click on the Plugins and enable "Symantec Ghost 8.0".

Here are the help files from C:\Pebuilder\Plugin\Ghost8\Ghost.htm

Ghost32 (version 8.0!) is certified to run on Microsoft Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE).
But it also works on BartPE.
Ghost32 is not free, buy it from Symantec.
To activate support for CD or DVD write, you also need to enabled the "ASPI" plugin.

Before you can use the plugin you must copy some files to the plugin directory.

Install and activate ghost as described in the ghost installation manual.
Then copy the following files from programs files\symantec\ghost into the plugin\ghost8\files directory:
    ghost32.exe, ghostexp.exe, ghostsrv.exe, ghostcdr.dll

Thanks but as i said above i can't find one of the Ghost files listed. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent file for the version of ghost that comes with GSS 2

I am currently having the same problem with GSS2.

The only file I'm missing to make the Ghost add-in for BartPE work is the ghostcdr.dll file.

Oh sorry guys, I guess that file is only in the earlier pre-V2.0 GSS versions.
I couldn't find any free copies of it out on the net, but if you send me your Email address I can email you a copy of it.

In the latest version (GSS 2.0) that dll seems to have been integrated into the Ghost32.exe.  So if you don't have it, and have GSS 2.0, use a semi-colon to comment out that line and you should still have full CD burning capabilities.  That dll was used as burning support in the previous editions.  (To my knowledge)
