GSS 2 Trialware - no licenses?

  • 1.  GSS 2 Trialware - no licenses?

    Posted Jan 17, 2007 04:42 PM
    Hi,

I downloaded and installed GSS 2 trialware, but when I try to run it, there are no licenses installed. The implementation guide is somewhat vague, but tells me to take my serial number to licensing.symantec.com to get the license.

Problem is, it's trialware! I didn't get any kind of serial number.

Where does one obtain a trialware serial number or license file?

I'd love to evaluate this product for our graduate labs.

    Anthony,

An un-licensed version of the product will support 10 clients for 30 days without a license. After installing the product, just ignore the licensing instructions.

If you require an extended trial, contact Symantec sales and a sales specialist can assist you with what you need.

    Thank you,

    Mark Ungerman

I'm sorry, but my experience contradicts that statement.

I installed GSS2 on 1 PC. I then install console client on another PC. the server will not accept the client connection, and the ngserver.log file states that the connection was refused due to a lack of licenses.

I'm sorry if I'm being dense, but the GSS unlicensed server doesn't seem to accept any connections.

Is there anything else I can check or try?

Here's part of the ngserver.log file. Note this is on 2 completely fresh windows XP PCs:

    Hi Anthony,

You should receive a zip file that contains trialware license file (.slf) in your login (sign in) email address, which you provided during the download process. The trialware license file is valid for 10 clients within 30 days from the date which you download the product.

    Cheers,
    Jenny

I didn't receive a zip file at either of the 2 email addresses I used when downloading the trialware; I registered 2 different accounts when I thought that perhaps our spam system would have blocked the zip file, but my gmail account also did not receive a zip file.

Is there a web address where I can download this trial license file? That would seem an expedient solution.

    Thanks

I'm currently having the same problem. When I open the console I get the message
    ---------------------------
    Symantec Ghost Console Trialware
    ---------------------------
The Console is currently unregistered. You will not be able to run any tasks until the Console has been registered. To register, use the Register Console option from the Help menu. You must register the Console within 30 days of installation to use the full range of the Console functionality.

The error encountered while checking registration licenses is:

No licenses exist for Symantec Ghost Solution Suite (0x80000013)
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------
When I try and push the Ghost client to any computer I get this message.
    ---------------------------
    Symantec Ghost Console Trialware
    ---------------------------
Number of machines selected exceeds the license count.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

Those error messages are expected when you start a unregistered trialware Ghost Console. Because a trialware version will not work without register first. It is different to a production version, without registration, it provides a 30-days grace period and allows you to have maximum 10 clients.

    Anthony,
A trialware license file should be sent to your login email address as part of the download process. Maybe the email gets blocked by your email server because with the attachment? Please try it again.

    Best Regards,
    Jenny

I've sent the email as requested, thank you for helping out.

However, I'm not convinced it was the fault of the email system at our end. I registered and downloaded GSS 2 3 times on 3 different email systems and didn't receive an email.

I think your download/email system needs to be checked thoroughly with gmail and yahoo addresses to ensure that it is working correctly.

Alternatively, may I suggest you include a link to the license file generator in the GSS 2 trialware?

So how do I go about getting this registered? We would like to test this for creating ghost images of our Vista test machines. Our current version of Ghost will not work according to your web page.

    Hi Carla,

To register trialware Ghost Console, you need to load a trialware license file (.slf) in the Console via menu Help -> Register Console -> Add Symantec License File. (I hope you don't have any problem to receive a trialware license file). When you open an unregistered console, an error message box will pop up, click OK to bypass it. Once registered, those message will go away.

    Hope this helps,
    Jenny

Sorry Jenny I did not receive a license file when I downloaded the trailware. If my e-mail server would have blocked this because of the attachment I would have been notified of this. Can the SLF file be sent again?
    Thanks
    Carla
