GSS 2.0 problems with creating an image

  • 1.  GSS 2.0 problems with creating an image

    Posted Apr 25, 2007 11:46 AM
I am trying to create an image from a machine and I get this error.

    Date   : Wed Apr 25 16:59:15 2007
    Error Number: (580)
    Message: Unknown keyword: DST
    Version: 7.50 (Dec  1 2001, Build=335)
Command line arguments: -Z1 -clone,src=1,mode=create,dst=@MCGHOSTSERVERpull26 -batch -igb -jm=U -sgt
    Active Switches :
No Switches specified in options panel or ghost.ini
As far as I have been able to gather DST is the destination machine for the image, so there should be no issue.

I have had a machine working with this set of drivers but unfortantly I have been out of the country for the last 3 weeks and it seems to have gone out on a job.

    Any ideas?

If you are referring to the dst in the command line, that is the ghostcast session name it is looking for.

Possible reasons it can not locate the session are that its not in the same subnet and you don't use WINS.

They are on the same subnet.

Hummm they aren't on WINS. This network is only for ghosting machines.

It isn't a problem with Ghost 7.5, still haven't to use 7.5 while I am trying to get this all setup.

Hopefully this is not an insulting question, but you have verified the ghostcast session is running on the server you are dumping to?

Your information implies that you are using a console to issue the command to create a new image?  Is that what is going on? or are you using those command lines manually?

Yes it is running and yes I am running from the console.

The error that pops up on the client is Error 580, unfortantly that is all I can catch.

If there any further Error files?

I would imagine the client has a ghosterr.txt file with possibly more info.  Im not familiar with that error.

I think it might be a driver error as I am now only getting it on machines with broadcom NIC's. All the various Intels seem to work nicely now.

Just finding it annoying as I need convice the management to buy some more license's soon and it is rather hard to do when it is not working as needed.

Im not sure how the driver enters in to it.  If you are pushing a task from the console and the client is getting the task, booting do DOS, getting the command line to ghost from the console then I would say the networking is working properly.  If its just not connecting to the session then either it can't find it.  Reasons include, not in the same subnet and not using wins... firewall on the ghostcast server blocking ghostsrv.exe.  There are others of course.

I only say it might be the drivers as I have been using the same equipment, in some cases even the same cables, for everything and it is only the broadcoms that are bring up this error.

Bit of more information, it seems to be only the Broadcom 440x machines, the 57xx seems to work fine on A HP 5100 Pc but bring up that error when trying to create an image of a HP 6325 laptop.

The error happens when NGCTDOS.EXE is loaded.

Everything up to that point works fine. As I said before I it doesn't happen on Intel 100 and 1000 NIC.

Im surprised I didnt notice this earlier.  Your question is in regards to GSS 2.0 but your client is reporting ghost version 7.5?

    Version: 7.50 (Dec  1 2001, Build=335)
something seems a tad out of date?

Well I am running the Client.msi in Symantec\Ghost\ClientInstall\ and the server has never had any other version of ghost. The laptops have but it was uninstalled before the new client was.

Have sorted the issue out and it does seem to be the drivers.

I'm seeing this as well, but with an Intel PRO 1000 nic, and possibly others, haven't tested others yet. I get this uploading an image with GSS 1.1, the client version and app should match, but I find it interesting the version is listing as 7.50, why would that be? I'm able to do manual up/down loads with srv and client on boot disk, but the console is useless as is....help!?

also occurs while imaging, so either up or down with the console...

Further to this...it appears that the console is installing the 7.5 version ghost.exe as the client! This was installed from the console remotely! how could this happen!? Ghost console was installed on a machine that had previously has Ghost Enterprise 7.5 on it, but was removed before installation...should this be possible? How can I fix that?, will have to compare client install dirs on the server maybe to a clean install...

    Hi mr2malv,

One thing that I know that can make this happen is if you uninstall the old version of the client and install the new version w/out rebooting.  This happened to me anyway to fix it I uninstalled the new version rebooted and reinstalled the new version of the client and everything is working.

    Hope this helps,

    Ray
