    Hi,

I've been using GSS with windows and its all going fine. Now I need to get it working taking and deploying linux images. Is there a linux console client?

If so where can I get it?

If not, how can I take and deploy linux images?

    Any help appreciated!

    Toady,

There is currently no Linux client for executing console tasks. The way to take and deploy images to linux machines is through the use of the Ghostcast Server. You will need to make boot disks to do so.

    Thanks for that Randall,

If I have to make boot disks for linux, does this mean I would have to manually boot every machine with a boot disk every time I wanted to take or deploy a linux image to it?

This wouldnt be an option for me as this setup is for a software lab where we test compatability and would be reimaging machines on a daily basis.

Is there any way to fully automate the linux imaging process like on Windows machines?

I cant find any other threads or knowledgebase articles detailing this :-(

    thanks!

Yes, currently every task ran to a Linux machine requires booting with a boot disk. Alternately, you could set up a PXE environment, which may help in a test environment like you described. You could have the full -clone switch added to automate the operation so that once it PXE booted, it performed the operation without further intervention.

Here is information about using PXE:

For getting the -clone switch, you can start the Ghostcast server and copy the text out of the command line area.

     Hello,

There are currently no changes to the the Ghost client; it continues to a be a Windows-only client. Future releases may add a client for Linux, but our developers ave not mentioned this. The recommended methods for deploying Linux machines remains Ghostcasting with either boot disk or a PXE environment, or a Ghost Console Client PXE setup, where you would PXE boot the machine and the Ghost client would run in the WIndows PE boot environment.

    Thank you,

    Randy

    Ok thanks for respond.
I have no ability to be physically manage our servers. They are web servers and I can only use remote desktop for windows and ssh for linux as they are in datacenter. All I need is take and restore images for linux machines from console. So what do you think is best for my needs for linux solution? Would be very happy if you could describe little bit. Because I had never done PXE or PE boot stuff. Even not sure what exactly they do.

    Thanks in advance.
