Very simple Q
I need to clone a server boots disk drive c to a new drive SATA dynamic partition

installed GSS onto a win 7 platform ( appears to work)

now need to clone drive F to a brand new hard drive.
can someone please give me easy to follow steps as GSS looks very involved/ complicated and do not have time to read manuals etc.

Normally used ghost PE with ATA drives simple uncomplicated worked well.

Is there any other software thats easier to use

Article

thumpertwin,

GSS 2.5 should be abnle to do this easily. This article is a good one on the basic process of creating an image and deploying it. It is a simple and direct how-to:

How to get started in Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 with Boot Disks and the Ghostcast Server
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/on-technology.nsf/docid/2009052715374860

As a warning, I have seen some issues with GSS 2.5 being installed on a Windows 7 machine.

Thank you,

randy

Complicated as i suspected 1.

Complicated as i suspected
1. do not have the server up and running of the drive I need to clone. The reason is there are errors on the drive (bad blocks) and will not boot.
2. No backup exists and it has 2003 SBS on it, ie exchange email

3. by looking at the articles you have referred it appears that
              a. I must create a pe disk on CD rom
b have 2 computers 1 with Ghost that I must setup as a "server" with enough space to store my image I will get when I boot the 2nd PC up with the special boot disk and this is all done via ethernet LAN
c then do the reverse to send my image to my new hard disk.
Far  too involved and will take too much time and if i hit snags more wasted time.

I am hoping to clone then try and bring system up by running windows repair.

I have already cloned it with CASPER but does not boot afterwards.
Excellent little program that works well for XP

I think for my current need Ghost SS  is an overkill

No its not a Harley but starts every time and has never broken down

You do not need to involve

You do not need to involve ghostcast server or console if you are to just clone one partition or one disk. Simply run ghost32 under Windows and select partition-to-image. Select your f: drive then select image location and click OK. If for one reason or another ghost cannot obtain exclusive lock to the drive then it will allow you to clone it "hot" while OS is running. You just have to answer "use volume snapshot" if it prompts you. Because it is not a system drive c: then ghost should obtain lock and clone it traditionally ("cold") from within Windows just fine.
