    Environment:

    HP Proliant Server
    Windows 2003
    Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1
    Netgear JGS524

The GSS is on a separate network as our production.  It is running Windows 2K3 and act as a DHCP server to the 1 Gigabit Netgear switch JGS524.  I'm using PXE boot with an Intel NDIS driver.

Event:  So when the new server was originally setup, it was blazing fast.  We tested ghosting 10 machines via multicast and it was done in 7-8 minutes.  Our old GSS took 1:40 minutes.  But now when I ghost 10 machines it takes about 2 hours.  Does anyone know why this is happening?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I believe this is because of incorrect / outdated NIC drivers. From your query, I guess you are working with brand new machines. In that case, the NIC demands latest version of drivers. Also, If you are using PC-DOS, I would suggest you to go with WinPE.
The latest version of various NIC drivers for use with WinPE are available at the link below:

Please check the link below and this would explain on Ghost's performance on a network. It would not be just because of the network driver update alone.http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/on-technology.nsf/docid/2000083116041825

Thank you for the suggestions.  I will do some test.

@Dilip p s:  I am using PC-DOS for PXE boot over the private network.  It works wonders for me b/c the WinPE will force me to do USB drive to boot and I dont' want to do it.  Unless you know of a way to boot over NIC using WinPE.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/on-technology.nsf/docid/2008050613274260  here is the doc on setting up 3com pxe and tftp and here is the kb on using tftpd32.   The tftpd32 is a better tftp program than the 3com tftp software once it is all set up following the first KB set up tftpd32 as your tftp by the second link here using 3com for pxe and tftp32.exe

Hope that helps.   I love PXE and PE.

    Hello,

ICHCB is correct about the 3COM TFTP software; it is just not designed for delivering Windows PE-sized boot packages. He recommended the TFTPD32, which works well. I prefer the SolarWinds TFTP. Setup for that is described here:

How to use the 3Com Boot Services (and SolarWinds TFTP) with Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 using WinPE
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/on-technology.nsf/docid/2009060307534660

Whichever you use is just a matter of preference, though, since both work very well.

    Thank you,

    Randy
