GSS Won't start Image

I have had major problems creating a CD boot disk, but I finally figure that problem out. I was using an XP version of the cdrom.sys driver and i had to get a universal DOS driver off the net and now I am booting w/ CD w/ some editing of the autoexec.bat file, also...

Anyway, I have new Gateway E2600 PCs that I need to image and when I boot w/ my bootCd everything comes up fine, but when I try to send the image to my server w/ ghostcast it just sits there "Creating image w/ compression" and never starts the image??? What is going on? Can you help?

On the GHOSTCAST server app do you actually see the connection in the IP / MAC window??

Yes, it shows the PC is connected but the image never starts sending to the ghostcast server. I can send Images to and from w/ an older PC and it works fine.

    Thanks for replying!

What does your ghost command line look like?  (EX-ghost -clone,mode=dump)

    Kev,

I am not using any special commands...I am just  using the default unicast session to my ghostcast sever. I have been using Ghost for 3 years and I have never not been able to upload my images? I wonder if it is this new platfrom?? Sata drives? Could it not be working b/c of multiple partitions? I have never had problems before...

Does it say "Ghostcast in progress"  or "Waiting to start" ?  That could help point to the culprit.  If its waiting to start then the server has not been told to go, something the client has on control over.  VS in progress where it is having trouble sending the data.

It says it is creating the image w/ compression. I thought the compression was the problem so I tried it w/o compression and it still just sits there and says it is in progress but it never starts...

Have you tried the gateway NDIS driver for this new computer?   It sounds like the session has started but then goes nowhere.  I have only ever experienced that when there was a networking connectivity/driver issue.

    Jason,
You could try the reverse and execute from the ghost console to the new workstation to create your image.  we have used this trick on stubborn workstations and laptops.

Ok, I have never used the Ghost Console to create images...I will have to learn how to do that...

    Thanks,

    Hi Jason,

It depends how you start your Ghostcast session - manually or scripted with command-line parameters (eg. similar to how Ghost console starts it for you) hence why people where asking this question. When you start it manually then client will connect to the given Ghostcast session and will wait for the server to start sending/receiving an image command. To initiate that you'll need to go to your Ghostcast server and press "Send" button on the UI.

The send button is only active when I want to restore an image to the client. I am trying to create and image and send it to the server, and it is supposed to automatically send the image to the server w/o clicking on send.

    Hi Jason,

This is a busy thread, so forgive me if I have overlooked some posts.

The behavior you describe could happen due to SATA drives as well as network driver issues. Best way to isolate the issue is trying a local storage (USB, another partition if you have multiple partitions) or a mapped network share. If you can create (actually just start creating the image) in a local disk, then we can focus on the network driver.

There had been conflicts with IDE controller when using SATA disks in some machines. Could you try Ghost with the switch -noide (you have to use this switch locally with Ghost.exe, not from multicast server).
