While setting up the GUP in low bandwith network site or over WAN remeber about following:

    - if you are concerned clients may skip GUP an go to sepm for updates -> disable option "Maximum time that clients try to download updates from a Group Update Provider before trying the default management server"

    - set "Maximum disk cache size allowed for downloading updates" option as required by your environment

    - "Delete content updates if unused" same as above

    - "Maximum number of simultaneous downloads to clients" - depending on how many clients per GUP you have and if clients are traversing to different GUP subnets

    - the most important: "Maximum bandwidth allowed for Group Update Provider downloads from the management server" - will allow you to set the max bandwith allowed for defs downloads from SEPM to GUP server - so over the slow link
