  • 1.  GUP, Liveupdate and SEPM as update sources

    Posted Aug 27, 2012 10:31 PM

Can someone please explain what happens if in the liveupdate policy, all options are ticked i.e.,

    • Use default management server is ticked
    • Use Liveupdate Server is ticked and an internal liveupdate server url is entered
    • Use GUP is also ticked

I seem to recall reading somewhere that if GUP is ticked it will only ever use a GUP unless it cannot contact the GUP in which case it uses the default management server.

So my understanding if all are ticked:

    • It will use the GUP and SEPM if it cannot contact a GUP within a certain number of days. It won't ever use the liveupdate server.

    is all these are ticked

    • Use default management server is ticked

client will contact the sepm for content update.

    • Use Liveupdate Server is ticked and an internal liveupdate server url is entered

whenever liveupdate is running, it will connect to internal liveupdate

    • Use GUP is also ticked

client will try to contact GUP, if you have configured do not by pass it will not download from SEPM.

    Thanks for the link.

    What are named updates?

If you enable both options, clients try to retrieve updates from both sources. You typically do not enable both options unless you have a specific reason. If the server provides named update versions to clients, and the clients have previously downloaded the latest updates from a LiveUpdate server, the clients do not download and install the named (previous) versions.

Does that mean if we a client has previously talked to a liveupdate administrator server, if we turn that option off and select only to get updates from SEPM, then the client will no longer download updates?
