Hello all , I have a questions regarding GUP and need your input on this.

    1. Can RU2 GUP serve content to RU4 endpoints ?

    2. Secondly while upgrading SEP endpoints to a newer version is it mandatory to upgrade the GUP first to newer version than clients ? ( meaning if clients are upgraded first then GUP ) then wont be able to get the definations ?

      Thanks and Regards

Yes,Group update providers (GUPs) are fully backwards compatible. A 12.1 manager can manage 11.0 GUPs and 12.1 GUPs can update 11.0 clients.

As a best practices you can upgrade SEP gup client.

Thanks for the prompt response James.

I was asking about the GUP . Can RU2 GUP server content to RU4 endpoints. You are telling about the SEPM support for older version  GUPs

Secondly its a best practice to upgrad GUP first , but is it mandatory to update GUP first than endpoints ?

meaning for some reasons If GUP weren't updated first than clients then would clients stop taking updates from the GUP since GUP is on a lower version ?

    thanks and regards

There is not be required but i recommend you that you can upgrade the GUP system also because there are some bugs fixed in newer version so it can properly support on tht gup client as well.

The Use case being is the I am autou pgrading my clients to the latest version from RU3 . The whole autou pgrade is being applied to the group , so you cannot distinguish and determine whether the GUP will be updated first or the client.

So this is why I was wondering that what will happend if the endpoints are upgraded first then the GUP. whether it would have any adverse impact on the content distribution to the endpoints from the GUP.

There is not be a problem you can upgrade the gup and normal client with autoupgrade.

There is not be a issue. All the functionality of gup will work similar as it running current.

How many Gup client available in your envirement?

You can try to upgrade first GUP client and monitoring auto upgrade process.but you don't worry still Gup can provide defination higher version.
