The HAL type could not be determined for this system?

Created: 08 Apr 2013 • Updated: 10 Apr 2013 | 3 comments

I got a site thats deploying a desktop (winXP sysprepped image) and when I run the deployanywhere eval I get this at the bottom of the Deployanywhere.txt file

Existing Sysprep answer file will be modified if retargeting is performed.
Error:
The HAL type could not be determined for this system.

It doesn't mention any missing critical drivers - all seem to be matched ?

any ideas.

J.

BugTastic,

A good start for troubleshooting your HAL issues might be this TechNet library article regarding Identifying Hardware That Impacts Image-based Installations.  Another TechNet library article that may be worth looking at is Windows Architecture

Another thing I wanted to mention was the Windows XP and Office 2003 End of Support date (April 8, 2014) is now less than a year away.

Moving to a more secure, robust and modern operating system such as Windows 7 or Windows 8 is strongly recommended and will ensure that you’ll be receiving support for several more years.

A recent Springboard blog post written by Stephen Rose covers what end of support means and has many helpful links to the free tools you will need to migrate from XP to a modern operating system, whether it be Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Another resource to consider is the Springboard Series on TechNet which contains articles and videos to assist with your operating system migration as well as manage your new environment once it is in place.
