I'm trying place an image on a laptop that has the HDD set to AHCI mode, but the image is from a IDE laptop.  What I want to know is how to replace the file that is calling for the IDE profile with the AHCI profile for SATA.  Sorry I'm new to this hardware independent imaging.

Renzo,       I am not sure if

Renzo,
I am not sure if you will be able to just plug in a file easily using image explorer or something like that, but you might be able to go into the bios and change the HDD setting to IDE or IDE Emulation. This might allow the original image to work. Since it does not work, it is probably related to chipset drivers or mass storage device driver. In theory one should be able to add these to the image, but one might want to start by installing the OS manually to confirm what hardware is on the laptop that the OS detects that is not an image. Then use this information to get the exact drivers needed to plug in to the image. Good luck.

When you use Deploy Anywhere

When you use Deploy Anywhere it will insert the correct Mass Storage Driver into the image.

Another solution

Another solution would be switching to a product like Swimage Encore. Swimage seperates hardware, software, and OS components so they can each be updated and maintained apaer from each other. If you want to add a new model simply run the hardware interrogator, add the PCs drivers and now you can image that model using your existing OS and applications.

As an added plus this product was meant to work with Altiris DS.

Hardware-independent

You may also want to look at the Universal Imaging Utility (www.hardware-independent.com).  It handles all the drivers, controllers, PnP ID's, etc. so the image you create with whatever imaging tool you're using, is hardware independent.

Cheers.

try updating the drivers database

 Hello,

I had that problem before and found that all i needed to do is to update the hardware database. (deployanywhere driver database under tools)
just add the AHCI drivers to it and deployanywhere should take care of it.
