I have been following the forums since the release of SEP11 and the very unfavorable comments posted here have caused me to be very reluctant to begin testing.

Is there anyone out there with any positive experiences to share?

I've had mixed....Installing first version at multiple clients was a disaster....Only been in a test environment with the new MR2 and no issues yet....

Besides I only install the AV&Spam only now.

I have had good experience with MR2 MP1 so far.
Just installed last week and all is looking good.

Was on MR1 and only had the database size issue and shares missing on DC.
Found fixes here and was running ok on it. But now I am on MR2 MP1.
Reduced the DB with dbunload tool and like WOW SEPM is so much better.
Upgrading more clients now with SEPM and is working smooth so far.

I only have 79 clients YMMV.

MR2 MP1 running on SEPM.  Approx. 700 systems running MR2 with all components.. No issues.

MR2, 26 clients, had a few installation issues that were fixed by pushing out the client again.

Upgraded to MR2 MP1, clients upgraded automatically, nice!  I now have 70 clients with only a couple of minor installation issues (two that I pushed out needed to reboot as they were getting errors in Outlook, rebooting solved it).

I've been deploying SEP 11 from day one.  Do I think it was released prematurely?  Yes.  However, it is a solid product when you take the time to read the documenation and set everything up properly.

Forums are for support and people to gripe.  You don't hear from the thousands of IT Admins that do things correctly and don't have problems.

I'd much rather work through issues and help Symantec improve its product than go with one of the other products out there.  But that's just my $0.02.

Me too had good experience with SEP 11.0 MR2 MP1. Small small issue may pop up, but this doesn't mean that product is bad. we have Symantec Technical support team in 4 regions to help us and they are doing there job well but little bit of delay.

As Eck said, these forums are for peer to peer support, so you are not going to be finding a lot of warm fuzzy feeling posts here. You always hear when someone is having issues. When things go well, you rarely hear a word.

For the most part. If the environment that the product is being introduced to is solid. And you read the installation guide, administration guide and other appropriate guides for your environment in the DOCUMENTATION folder on CD1. Then properly prepare for the migration/installation and deployment. You should have little to no issues with the software.

I had nothing but hell on earth for the 4-5 months I tested this product.  I had most of the issues listed in these forums, as well as many errors on the workstations.  I just popped back into the forums to see if the problems were ever solved. Doesn't look like it.

I gave up and bought AVG 8 for the network. What I couldn't do in 5 months, I did in less than 3 weeks: go from a test to production environment.  Same network. Same server to run the AVG server software. ZERO problems, 1st try. And the program found a bunch of nasty critters on all the workstations that were protected by Corporate Anti-v 10.1!! Did I mention the workstations boot fast now, and have no errors?

The software is not perfect, and lacking some of the power that Endpoint has (if it works), but my workstations are protected, nothing is crashing and I saved $11K from not having to renew Endpoint this September.

Life is good.   I recommend it for small businesses.

I have successfully deployed MR2 to a 5000+ seat client which included NTP (Firewall) to all workstations and Laptops and some app servers (these required extensive testing) and all other features (no Proactive Threat Protection to Servers as recommended by Symantec)and I am in the process of deploying to a 700+ seat client, both without major issues to report.

Give it time- Our roll out was (at first glance) problem free. Weeks later we realized that a lot of things weren't functioning properly. More weeks passed and our file server siezed up, twice.

All of my experiences with deploying more than 30 clients have been bad, so deploying to 12K+ endpoints would be a catastrophe.

We are running SEP MR2 MP, which is the latest horrible version of this software.

 - Application and Device Control Shuts off File and Printer Browsing

 - Outlook Plug-in Does not allow attachments to be viewed.

 - SEP LiveUpdate runs the CPU usage up to 100% if the computer is not connected to the network, thus making it unusable.

 - SEP Scans hog resources, we done all the tuning recommended, still causes issues.  Even caused one Hard drive to overheat.

 - Cannot specify specific scan locations for custom scans.  It only allows you to pick from "pre approved" Symantec locations.

 - Deployment Issues, some clients did not install correctly, etc.  We had about a 10-15% fail rate on installs.  For our small pilot, not a big problem, for a 12K+ deployment that will be an issue.

Our solutions, we are looking at competitive trade-in contracts with competitors such as Sophos and ESET.

At this point, I'm pretty well fed up.

Symantec Endpoint Protection is not enterprise ready! Why would you even roll out a product this badly integrated?

I upgraded from CE 10.1 to SEP 11 and it is working nicely. 2 sites and around 75 clients.

You have to read the documentation first.
