Hi group,

I am new to NBU (former TSM guy, well, still am)...I was wondering if anyone can give some tips about daily routines, or if anyone has a daily check list that they follow?

thanks.

A basic quick once over for a vanilla set-up...

Any failed jobs, downed drives, frozen media etc.

Media availability - try to get to know how much is utilised daily, over w/e etc.

Logs/reports (both NetBackup & system OS) - familiarise yourself with what's "normal"

Get to know what jobs should run when even if it means checking all schedules for a while!

There could be many more depending on what you're environment & business requirements are, but it gets to be second nature after a while.

Regards Andy

daily steps

I get a report of all jobs that failed (even if try 1 failed and try 2 was good)  I look at all failures to find out why and if I can prevent any of it.

eject tapes and send offsite

inject scratch tapes - verify I have enough in the lib for tonight  - and try to extrapolate will I have enough for the weekend backups (if I think I will be short - get more tapes in the lib before the weekend)

look at all opscenter alerts about frozen tapes or down drives or low media.....

VERIFY THE CATALOG BACKUP WAS GOOD

with spare time:

look at RC 1's see if I can do any excludes to turn the yellow guys into blue.

check when the last backup finished - seeing what is normal - this will allow me to see if it starts creeping up on me.  If it gets to close to the end of my window - start looking at what I can do to again decrease the backup time.

I don't have to know how to spell....I work on Unix.
