Help Building Report of Asset Status Count by Month

I am trying to create a report that will give me the count of assets by status per month. has anyone dome something like this? I would really appareciate it if I get some pointers on how to accomplish this.

Just to clarify...

So you want a report that lets you select a month as a parameter and tells you what status your assets were in at that point in time? 

If that is what you are looking I think I can help.  Just wanted to make sure I knew what you are looking for before I dive in.
