    Ok we've installed the Deployment Console on our Helpdesk agents. Everything works great, except if you go to Help -> Console Basics, we get page cannot be displayed on the right frame of the page. It works perfectly on the Deployment Server but not on the users machines. Any idea how I could get to work?
    Thanks!

    I'm not exactly sure how to make it work. I can offer you a work around to get to the help files.

    All the documentation is located on the server and should be accessible on the share:

    \\server\express\docs

    "deployment_en.chm" is the file that Help --> Console Basics calls. The guide is the deployment.pdf file.

    Could be that for some reason you don't have access to that file from computers other than the server.

    Anthony, I can duplicate his problem as well, and I can access the help files directly via the UNC path.

    That's strange. Its working for me for all 3 of my servers. Did you have to do something to make it fail?

    Ok this one is weird, I went directly to the file and I double click on deployment_en.chm and I get same thing, I see the menu on the left hand side however the right hand side still says the page cannot be displayed? I'm trying to display these just on a regular workstation, so we've installed a Deployment Console on workstations (Windows XP) and trying to access the Help files from there. I haven't changed anything on the server. Like I said I can access the files perfectly on the server, just not on the workstations? I should add I can read the PDF but it's obviously not as user friendly looking as the other one? It would be much nicer to have it in that frame view.

    Anthony, I have not done anything (that I know of) to cause this... I very rarely use the help or local console, usually, I am remoted into the server where it works fine.

    B, what happens if you copy the help file to the local computer that is being used and open it from there? The "page cannot be displayed", which error is it? 404, 400, 403?

    Good call!!! If copied locally it works!

    If I try to connect through the Console error is this:

    Action canceled
    Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please try the following:

    Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

    If you have visited this page previously and you want to view what has been stored on your computer, click File, and then click Work Offline.

    For information about offline browsing with Internet Explorer, click the Help menu, and then click Contents and Index.

    If I try to click on any links after that, the error is this:

    The page cannot be displayed
    The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

    This would be something that Altiris should look into. It sounds like a bug in how the help file was compiled. At least the work around works for you.

    It certainly would be nice if Altiris could fix the issue, but what are the odds of that happening?

    The problem sounds like a security patch issue. It's a patch that Microsoft issued quite some time ago that is likely to be causing your problem. It occurs when IE tries to open CHM files that are not on the local machine. There's a registry hack that can be entered to change this behavior. If my quick file retrieval is correct, this is the fix:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions]
    "MaxAllowedZone"=dword:00000001

    Do this on each of your helpdesk agents' computers.

    K I can go as far as 1.x, are you saying add a value a new Multi string value name ItssRestrictions with the value above?
    Thanks

    Yes. These are the lines straight of a reg file I import into my affected systems. The only this missing is the default header, so the full file is:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions]
    "MaxAllowedZone"=dword:00000001

    Save these lines into a text file, named something.reg, then import using regedit.

    Also, you can go to Technet at Microsoft and do a search on ItssRestrictions to get the full story about this key. It's Article ID: 896054, under Example 2.
