Help Installing Wise Package Studio Server on my NS Server
Hi All,
I'm trying to install the Wise Package Studio Server on the same server running Notification Server. I'm getting an error at the end of the install:
"Altiris Software Virtualization Solution not compatible with the installed version of Altiris Agent 6 and will not be installed."
Other than that, the install appears to have installed Wise Server. My questions are:
1. What Virtualization Solution did not install? Is this any part of the software streaming solution?
2. How do I get past this error to get everything to install?
I'm very new to the Altiris products.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
I got the same error and I guess it was trying to install altiris svs client software at the end of the install.
When i tried to install "Wise Package Studio SP3" server on Altiris Notification Server [Windows Server 2003 EE SP1], end of the install i got this message box with OK and CANCEL options. I just clicked on OK and finished with installation.
Now I have several WPS software client machines with "Wise Share Point" on NS. I'm successfully working on Wise Package Studio application on NS as well as client machines.
By the way i have Altiris Agent version: 6.0.2338
I'm also looking forward to hear from experts over this issue. Thank you for your time on this.
Thanks,

More effects...
Hi Eshwar,
I noticed that when I tried to install WPS 3 on a client XP PC. I get another issue, the installation of the SVS fails and says it needs to go to the internet inorder to install the SVS application. I have a feeling it's because the SVS wouldn't install on the WPS Server. I'm trying to install the client WPS as a Network Client and not a Local Client.
Thanks,
Mike

This has been reported to Symantec and we're working on it.
I can tell you what we know so far, which isn't too much yet.
First, this happens if you do NOT have the SVS client installed already.
If you watched carefully during the install, the first thing the wise install does is create a program files\altiris\setup files\Wise... folder, and place the MSI for wise in this folder. This MSI is then called and executed. After it finishes, the main exe then extracts UpdateSVS.EXE and then launches it without switches, which causes this error.
You'll notice that this exe is an "update" to svs. If you have the Altiris agent and did not include the SVS sub-agent, this "update" fails with an erroneous error that it's not compatible.
On the other hand, if you already have the SVS subagent installed, the error does not occur.
The SVS subagent is used for SOME features in package, but is not needed for most of it. Thus, if this fails, it's not too bad - unless of course those are the features you need!
Anyway, we're working on it - no promises yet though.
