  • 1.  Help needed adding NIC template

    Posted May 16, 2007 01:54 PM
I'm relatively new to administering Ghost Console (8.2) and need a little know how on adding a new NIC template.  The driver I want to add is the Intel(R) 82566DM Gigabit Network Connection driver for a HP dc7700 Convertible Minitower.

I did a search and posted in the thread but it did not get bumped up.

I've gone through the manual (Implementation Guide) and it was of little help in getting this set up.  So I would download the driver and run it?  Would it install the drivers or put them in a location where I can access them?  Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get this resolved.

Also, the HP Support and Downloads site provides drivers for Broadcom and Intel Pro 1000 or something like that.  So I'm also pretty confused as to what I'm supposed to be using.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Usually, you get the same DOS driver for a range of network cards. DOS drivers are not granualer as Windows drivers.

For Intel 82566, you have the same dos driver used for intel pro/1000 (e1000.dos). Probably, the existing intel pro1000 driver would work.

When you select Add driver from Ghost Boot Wizard, it allows you to select the folder and install the driver. However, this may not work depending on the folder/file structure provided by the network vendor.

If you need to update the driver, one way is just copying .dos file to the existing network template. I discussed the process in the thread https://forums.symantec.com/syment/board/message?board.id=109&message.id=3294&query.id=70181#M3294 for broadcom drivers, but it is applicable for any driver.

Alternatively, you can use the universal packet driver (UNDI) which is common for all PXE supported network drivers. Intel cards are working pretty well with UNDI driver.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Krish

I have symantec corporate 8 and I am new to the whole boot disk creation.

I have an image created and have used ghost to "disk to disk" my image.

I need to now add the nic driver for my dc7700 to my boot floppy disks to upload the image to the server.

Can you help. I have tried it with the e1000.dos file and it doesnt work. I have since downloaded the drivers from Intel PRO2KXP.exe and extracted the files.

Can I simply copy one of the extracted files into the "NET" folder onto disk 1 of the 2 disk set created for booting.

If not what do I do?

    Yours Sincerely

    A stressed IT manager

    Hi,

The driver you downloaded may not contain the DOS driver, since the name suggests that it is XP/2K drivers. Basically, what you need is the .DOS file.

Yes, if you just drop the new driver to net folders, it will work. However, it is easier to add it to the template than changing it every time you create a floppy. Could you have a look at the other message referred in the previous post? ( https://forums.symantec.com/syment/board/message?board.id=109&message.id=3294&query.id=70181#M3294)

Let me know if you have any more issues.
