Help needed on MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition packaging
Hi,
Anyone knows how to package with SVS the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition?
When I tried to package it the installation starts fine, then towards the end of the installation, when the services should start the installation will terminate with an error, that the service can't be started.
I tried the virtualization with both the newer (2.1.3062) and older (2.0.1404) versions of SVS, and get the same error message.
I am using Win XP SP3 running on VMWare Workstation.
Any ideas on how to package this application?
Thank you,
Val

How did you package this? Did you do a capture?
If so, not a good idea.
See the notes that members have posted in the Package KB on Appdeploy.com

Hope this helps.

It is not possible to install SQL Server 2005 Express edition into an SVS layer, as SVS support for services is very limited and it cannot handle the SQL Server services.
(Unless someone has found a workaround ???)

Hi Maggie, Thanks for the
Hi Maggie,
Thanks for the link and your comments.
I tried to capture/package the "MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition" into a virtual layer using SVS. Apparently the install goes OK almost to the end, but when starting the various SQL services, the virtualization stops with an error message.
I looked it over, but unfortunately it says nothing about virtualizing this app.
Did anyone out there succeeded in packaging this app into an SVS layer?
Yes, I'm wondering if MaggieH
Yes, I'm wondering if MaggieH missed your reference to SVS, and just saw the "packaging" aspect.
I'd also be interested to know if anyone has succeeded in placing SQL Express 2005 Server into an SVS layer. I did discuss this with a couple of the SVS developers at ManageFusion a year ago, and they did not think it would be possible with the current SVS implementation. Whether a future release will provide better support for services is something we will have to wait and see.
However, I am also aware that there is a lot of creative talent out in the IT world, so it is always possible that someone has found a way....

Yep, totally missed that.
Yep, totally missed that. That's what you get when you don't take time reading.
Also,........I have no experience with SVS layers....very much unfortunately.
Wish I had...:-(

Maggie,
Point your browser at http://www.svsdownload.com
You can grab a copy of the free for personal use SVS client and also Trinket, then choose from a number of ready made SVS layers containing applications such as Firefox.
So the only thing stopping you now is the time to do it!
