Help with SEP v11 Rollback during install

  • 1.  Help with SEP v11 Rollback during install

    Posted Feb 22, 2010 11:09 AM
     I am having a lot of trouble installing SEP v11, and would appreciate any suggestions on a clean install.  Briefly, I have a nearly new Windows 7 64-bit home computer.  My company has a home use agreement with Symantec and has provided me with the 64-bit install package for SEPv11.

    At first, the program wouldn't install due to errors of a "Pending System Reboot", I searched the forums and solved that error with the proper tweak of the registry (e.g. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007121609023348).

    Now my computer rolls back every time during the install process.  I have searched the forums and google many times and I am finding folks with similar roll-back errors but the solutions are not working for me.  Their SEP_INST log files are typically a different error.  I saw some posts suggesting installing LiveUpdate and then rebooting to continue the install but that didn't help either.  Although LiveUpdate installed correctly.  I have seen in several forums that folks like to review the SEP_INST log file just above the first occurence of  "Return value 3".  I have posted that below in the hopes that it looks familiar to someone that might be able to help.

    Thanks in advance!

    its failing under lucheck.

    try these documents

    Symantec Endpoint Protection Client (SEP) installation fails and rolls back. Install log shows "( LUCHECK.EXE ) returned 206"

    http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/d0eba8eac1258b9388257643007e0f0c?OpenDocument

    remove liveupdate, delelet all liveupdate folders
    install liveudpate, install sep.
    try this document if all fails

     Rafeeq,
    Thanks for your quick reply.  I had spotted that "returned 206" thread earlier, and tried it with no luck.

    Delete
    C:\Programdata\Symantec
    C:\Program Files\Symantec
    Reboot the computer
    Install SEP again

    IF that doesn't work then try
    In the registry,

    Find

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%APPDATA%

    and change it to

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

    Install SEP client again.

    if non of the above suggestions works,try with another installation package. Also assures that you are having sufficient rights to install  SEP.Also turn off UAC and windows defender.

     Thank you all for your replies.  I have tried each of the suggestions with the same results unfortunately no install.  The AppData\Roaming key was already present in my registry, the DCOM settings did not help, tried deleting the suggested symantec folders with reboot prior to installing.

    I've been able to install live update without issue.  Does this seem strange given the SEP install fails during Live Update?  I don't know if this matters but I forgot to mention I had the free Norton Internet Security that came with my computer.  I uninstalled at the end of the free period, and I don't see any remnants of the program.

    I am having a very hard time trying to get 11.06a to install.  I just did a total OS XP SP3 new install on a client and trying to run it unmanaged.  I've been trying to install for the past 3 days and to no avail, nothing is working and I have no Anti-virus running on client.  I installed LU Setup with no problem and then tried install SEP but it keeps rolling back around 99% completion and then I get the error message of a Pending System Reboot.  I've run CleanWipe MSI Cleanup Utility and unistalled all remnants of SEP.  I changed the registry key  from \AppData to \AppData\Roaming.  I've tried to look at the log files in SEP_INST and it's telling me that there is no such log.  I do not have any valuePendingFileRenameOperations registry value in the registry.  I am the administrator and have tried all suggestions in the forums and have not had any success.  Before I upgrade my server from SAV Enterprise 10.4, I need to make sure Endpoint works before installing on my server. After reading many blogs I see this is a total headache and on-going problem with SEP V.11x...Any help to get SEP installed would be greatly appreciated.

    I see that you haven't gotten any responses to your issue yet. This is probably because this thread is so old most ignore it. Try making a new thread, this way it has a current timestamp and you are the thread owner. This lets you mark the thread as solved and post logs ect ect.

    Thanks,
    Grant
