Questions and Suggestion

Hello,

What version of SEP 11.x are you carrying??

Could you let us know the path of the SEP folders which is taking the highest space?

Here are few Articles which may assist you:

Issue Related to Low disk space.

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/issue-related-low-disk-space

Disk Space Management procedures for the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH96214

If incase, you are carrying an older version than 11.0.7101, then I would request you to make sure you migrate to the Latest version:

Check this Article to find how Old version are you carrying:

What are the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) versions released officially?

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/what-are-symantec-endpoint-protection-sep-versions-released-officialy

It is important to maintain consitency in the SEP 11 - check article below:

About Maintaining Consistency of Software Versions throughout a SEP 11 Organization

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH131660

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.7101 (RU7 MP1)

Reason for Migration to the Latest version; check the Release Notes:

Answer

Hello,

To understand which version you are carrying is simple.

1) Open the SEPM

2) Click on "About" on the Right Hand Upper Corner.

OR

1) Open the SEP client

2) Click on the "Help and Support" on the Right Hand Upper Corner and then Click on About.

Hope that helps!!

Not good idea

Hi,

it was not a good idea to delete the content just like that.

First you had to verify if the number of folders was the expected one or not, according to how many definitions you set to keep in your SEP Site Properties.

If the number was OK, you simply had to decrease it the Site Properties.

If the number was wrong, maybe something got corrupted and you had to apply the right procedure:
www.symantec.com/docs/ECH104721

Now, if something does not work and I were you, I would run the disaster recovery procedure to repair the installation.

Regards,

Giuseppe

Hi

Please do the following:

Lowering the retained number of content revisions will result in a reduction in the amount of disk space used by the SEPM to store content.  To alter the number of stored content revisions, please take the following steps:

  1. Go to the Admin page of the SEPM console.
  2. Select 'Servers' in the lower left hand corner.
  3. Right click on Local Site and select 'Edit Properties'.
  4. Go to the LiveUpdate tab under Site Properties.
  5. Under the 'Disk Space Management for Downloads' section it is possible to configure the number of content revisions to be retained by the SEPM.

Note that reducing the number of retained content revisions can potentially have a major impact on the client definition updating process, with clients then required to download larger deltas due to fewer content revisions being retained.  This can in turn have a significant impact on network bandwidth usage.  Please see the following articles for best practice recommendations on the number of content revisions to retain, as well as general disk space management procedures for the SEPM:

Best Practices for configuring the number of content revisions to keep in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH92225&locale=en_US

Disk Space Management procedures for the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH96214&locale=en_US

If the lack of disk space is not caused by the SEPM installation itself, then other solutions should be investigated.  For example: the configuration of auto-cleanup scripts for automatic cleaning of temporary folders and Internet cache, moving user files and folders to other locations, installing additional applications to other drives, setting the virtual memory (paging file) to a fixed value on an alternate drive, etc...
