Hello all,

New here and first off I would like to apologize for my first post being a question, I wish I could contribute something first but the issue Im having is driving me nuts! Hopefully you all can help.

I am using Outlook 2003 and have Backup Exec 9.1 backing it up. The issue I am having is two fold, 1. I am new to this company and have used Arcserve in the past, am not overly familiar with Backup Exec. which is the program the new company I am now working for is using 2. Every backup job of mine fails due to an "access denied" permission issue within Outlook. I am going to copy some of the log file below in hopes that someone here that is more familiar with BE can help me to solve this problem. Thanks in advance for any help that is given, I really appreciate it!

Hi Ryan,

By the looks of this log, this is less about backing up "Outlook" and more about backing up Exchange database on the server.

How are you backing this up? By the "mailbox" selections, or by "Information Store" selections?

At a fairly good guess, you are doing mailbox backups. Firstly, it's worth questioning if you really want to do these. If you do, you will want to track down and delete the emails referred to in the log. They are likely viruses, and your scanner is preventing them going to the backup.

In the case of the middle few "directory not found" users, this tends to indicate you are trying to backup the mailbox of a disabled user. Either:
- Reenable the user
- Delete the user
- Edit the backup selections and don't backup their mailboxes.
