Hide LiveUpdate Version RU4 on Mac

We've updated some of our Macs to RU4 and now LiveUpdate does not run silently/automatically.  What am I missing?

Are these unmanaged? If so, this may help:

No they are managed.  They run LU on a schedule like they always have, but it didn't used to show the LiveUpdate window, it just updated behind the scenes.

That's interesting because in a managed environment the schedule setup from within the should run silently by default.

Can you set it to silent manually for one affected client to see if it reverts back to what you need?

Possibly a bug here, you may want to open a case.

    Hello,

Is this issue occurying on all client machines or few Mac client machines?

Check this Thread with similar query -

    Hope that helps!!

This is happening on all of the Macs that we've updated to RU4.  LiveUpdate is running and applying the updates successfully, I just don't want the LU window to pop up and let the user know that "Updates are available" to which they need to hit the update button.  I also don't want the "your definitions are now up to date" window to popup.  I want it to run silently in the background.

I've looked all through the Client.  How do you set it manually??

    1. Verify this schedule is present by running the following command via Terminal, entering your admin password when prompted:
      sudo symsched -l
      (That's a lowercase L)

Note: The password will not echo on screen.

    2. If the schedule/s shown there is not desired, delete the current schedule/s:
      sudo symsched -d all
    3. If you wish to add a new schedule for all users, use the following command, substituting the time you want (24-hour time):
sudo symsched LiveUpdate "Update All Daily" 1 0 -daily 07:17 "All Products" -quiet

RU4 came out with a new java-free version of LiveUpdate, which is apparently not silent anymore as per http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH212353 (cannot confirm it, didn't test RU4 on MAC yet):

...queries the user on whether or not to update some things...

You can follow this procedure to run LiveUpdate via command-line, which is apparently always launched silently that way:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH212349

If it works, you may use scheduler to run it at your convienience.

    Hi MattBarber,

We are having the same problem at our site. Please post an updated in this thread if you happen to find a resolution. That pop-up sure is annoying!

    Hi John Q.,

Can we force LU6 to run silently? We are having hundreds of users receive this notification every day that LU ran successfully. I understand that LU may be feeling lonely and want for people to notice him a little more, but we all liked him more when he stayed out of our way. This feels like a step towards the old AVG client that would pop up and say hi about every 15 minutes every time it did anything.
