Hierarchy Replication
Dear all,
Could you please tell how much data (in megabytes) will be transfered from child NS to parent NS during hierarchy replication if child NS will be manage 10k clients. And suppose that will be used default replication settings.
I need to calculate the bandwidth of WAN between child and parent NS.
Thanks in advance!
Okay, Given we can't estimate
Okay,
Given we can't estimate how much data will travel between site we can at least document the process, so you can guestimate something for your customer:
- Replication takes place over http / https
- Data is sent in chunks of 2MiB at most (configurable)
Now, you can work out from potential network bandwidth allocated to the replication process how long it would take to replicate one server:
@ 2Mbps = 256KiB/s
- 100MiB ~ 400 sec, ~ 7 minutes
- 1GiB ~ 1.1 hour
This is a very rough view, given the tramission may not all happen in a single chunk, and you could have certain amout of processing or waiting in between.
But it gives an idea of the network window needed.
Also note that replicating 1GiB is simply enormous even using full replication and Patch Management.

Hum... not an easy
Hum... not an easy question.
It could be just a few MiB to hundreds, depending on the changes made on the environment, for example after a PMImport, etc.
How little bandwdith do you have bettwen the SMP's?

Actually i don't know
Actually i don't know situation with bandwidth between location for the moment. Customer wants to implement multi-SMP infrastructure with hierarchy and ask me about hierarchy requirements.
I just need approximate value.
