High RAM Utilization and Slow SMTP Response on Scanner

I need some direction on how to figure out why our Inbound Email Scanner Appliance (8360) is using a higher amount of RAM and having slow SMTP response between the hours of 1:00 and 5:00 am (EST) everyday. By 6am everything is back to normal. RAM goes back down and SMTP responds regularly.

We are not getting hit with any significant amount of additional email during those hours. Infact its less, maybe 2,000 email connections each hour which is low compared to normal business hours (avg 10,000 connections).

Any ideas what to check?

Thanks,

Stephen

Which process is taking up more resources?

Hi Stephen,

Various expungers and other sceduled jobs run (by default) during the hours of 1:00am and 5:00am on the Control Center which might impact the usage of resources, but those jobs only run on an appliance that hosts the Control Center function.  Is the Inbound scanner you mentioned a Scanner-only appliance or it has the Control Center functions as well?

Without looking at the diagnostics that capture debug level logs during the problem period, it's hard to tell what's the root cause of the issue you are experiencing.

I would suggest opening up a case with support, if you have not already done so.

Regards,

Adnan
