Hi...I am trying to install it on Windows 7 Professional

I don't see the S/W available in the downloads section of Symantec. And I can't install it from the Server CD because it is looking for Windows 2003 or later.

Hi,

Check my article on this below...the installation for BE 2012's Remote Console (supported on Windows 7) would follow the same format:

Thanks!

You did not specify which version of BE you want.  If it is BE 2012, then you can download it from www.backupexec.com.  Click on the trialware section.  If BE 2012 is missing when you sign into fileconnect, then you have to go to licensing.symantec.com to upgrade your licences to BE 2012 before you can download BE 2012 from fileconnect.  You can upgrade to BE 2012 for free if you are on a current maintenance contract.  You will receive a notification to upgrade.

You cannot use Windows 7 as a media server for BE 2012.  This is not supported. See the SCL below.  BE 2012 can only be loaded on server class OS'es, meaning Server 2003 and up.

Note that even BE 2010 does not support Windows 7 as a media server.

I am a little confused. The BE 2012 SCL.pdf says that Windows 7 Professional is supported.

And, if ya have to install on a Server 2003 or greater, then what leverage is one gaining in having remote admin capabilities if ya still had to RDP into another machine in order to manage the media server?

Thanks!

Pg. 12 of the SCL states that Win7 is supported for a RAWS agent. There is nothing in the media server support section for Windows 7 and therefore it is unsupported.

The Remote Console is supported for installation on Windows 7. This allows you to connect, via your Windows 7 workstation, to a BE 2012 media server.

Thanks!
