    Hi.

Anyone know if theres a way to hold the messages on a queue or something like when the exchange server above the brightmail is out for maintence or for problems, an issue that is occurring in my enviroment is when something happens to my exchange 2007 server, the brightmail receive the messages and try to deliver to exchange, but when exchange is out the brightmail change the  message to deliverd succesfull and the message simple disappear.

Any of you got some ideas to solve these problem??

    Thanks in advance

If your downstream Exchange server is down, the messages will remain in the Delivery queue on the SBG trying to deliver the message for 5 days.  You can see this in the SMTP Delivery Configuration settings on the Advanced SMTP Settings page.  Only after the default of 5 days will the message be deleted from the queue, so are you sure this is your issue?  One thing to be aware of is that the sender of the message will also have been alerted that the message was delayed and eventually that the message wasn't deliverable at all. Have you run a message audit log query to see what it says about these messages?

Ok, but these is not happening, when my downstream server is down the sgb gives the mail the delivery succefull status and the drop no longer stay in queue, there is a specific configuration for these, my SMTP Delivery Configuration is default but still not working how should.

    Thanks

So if you check the message audit logs for these messages what is it reporting?

When you look at the full message tracking details, what does it say for 'Delivered To' and 'Delivery Time'?

How long do your Exchange server outages last?

If the Actions taken shows "Deliver message normally", what IP does it show underneath that for "Delivered To"?

So if you pull the network connection out and the SBG can't reach the Exchange server than the 'Delivered to none' is what we would expect to see here.  How long did you leave the network cable pulled?  Did you check the delivery queue to verify the message was in queue once you pulled the network cable?  To check you can run the command 'mta-control delivery query-queue'.  Once you plugged it back in the message should have been delivered.  If you check audit logs again for that message what do the audit logs report?

    Cheers,

    Kevin

Well this indicates that the message has been transferred from the SBG to the downstream mail server, so I think that's where your problem is and that's where you need to troubleshoot.  If you want to confirm for sure, enable Information level logging for the Mail Transfer Agent on the Administration -> Settings -> Logs page, after that connect to the SBG via SSH(you may want to record the session output to text file to review it later), on the commnad line type 'watch maillog' which lets you watch the real-time output from the log flie.  Run your test again, after you plug the network cable back in you should see this message get delivered to the downstream mail server in the logs.  When you see the SBG get a '250 message received' from the downstream mail server that means it's been accepted sucessfully and the issue lies downstream.

Don't forget to drop the log level back to Warnings when you are done.

    Cheers,

    Kevin
