    Hi Francis,

In DCS:SA 6.6 there are some significant changes that are not really highlighted in the documentation.

In all versions of the documentation I can find, it mentions about a virtual appliance that you can use to control the console of DCS:SA and previous to 6.6 this wasn't a requirement, however now in 6.6 this is required to manage machines. There are a lot of features now missing from the standalone console which must now be managed through the virtual appliance.

I've discussed this with Symantec and confirmed that the virtual appliance is a reqirement in 6.6.

I believe the two options you have are:

    • Downgrade back to DCS:SA 6.5
    • Install the virtual appliance and use DCS:SA 6.6

    Thanks

    Sam

Are all the required ports open?

Make sure all the ports required are open between your SQL server, Managment server, and console.

In version 6.6, they made some significant changes. In order to fully implement DCS 6.6, you must deploy the Unified Management Console appliance from the DCS DVD media. Once you install this and link it to the DCS Manager, you will then be able to apply a policy to a security group (only 1 group, no longer one for Prevention and one for Detection), along with assigning assets to a security group (if you didnt specify one upon install). Here, you can also reapply policies to a security group (one downfall, can no longer apply a policy to a single machine). Hope this helps,

Sorry for posting in an old thread but I have a client with SDCS:SA 6.5 and they want to upgrade to 6.6. They doesn't have the UMC installed so, can I just upgrade the 6.5 to 6.6 or I have to install the UMC?

UMC is required for DCS 6.6 and must be installed. All asset managment and policy assignment to the security groups are now done from UMC.
