We had a direct connection
We had a direct connection from Media server to Data domain, NFS mounted the file system from Data Domain, created folders in NFS mountpoints in netbackup we created storage units with the path of the datadomain, it works fine.
Openstorage
Our environment uses the Openstorage API for Netbackup to talk to the DataDomain units we use in our environment. The main advantage of this is that it allows SLPs to take advantage of the deduplication abilites of the DataDomain units when moving files from remote sites to our main datacenter.
There are additional licensing requirements to use this method however, both on the Netbackup and DataDomain sides.
It's not so much additional
It's not so much additional licensing requirements to use these features... It's required! Any storage device that goes beyond a basic JBOD will need either Standard Disk, or Enterprise Disk licensing. For a device that does Dedupe and/or replication, it is required that one must purchase Enterprise Disk. For a plain VTL, you can get by with Standard Disk. NBU7 has some new licensing changes as well. What I referenced was for NBU6.x

Do you have procedure how to add it? I did it on Windows 2008 but I need to add on Solaris unix server, do you know where to get DD administration guide? Thanks.

As per licensing guide
Any deduplicated disk storage attached to NetBackup has to be licensed, and this license is Enterprise Disk (licensed per front-end terabytes).
And it does not matter HOW you're attaching the box (i.e. iSCSI/FC/NFS/CIFS Basic or Advanced). It's just a matter of following the licensed way or not. Of course nobody can stop you from attaching these boxes as NAS devices/Basic Disk storage units.
If you want to avoid the
If you want to avoid the additional license cost, you can use NFS share. Thus in NBU perspective, it writes to a mount point which is a DD device.
Actually that is against the
Actually that is against the licensing terms. So while technically it may work, you are in violation of licensing terms, and can get in trouble if reported. Anything beyond a JBOD or basic disk, requires Enterprise disk licensing.
