  • 1.  How to add Punycode IDN Domains to accept inbound?

    Posted Jul 16, 2009 09:32 AM
    Hi,

we are using Symantec Brightmail 8.0.1-7 on VMware ESX.

If adding a IDN Domain in Punycode (xn--) to accept inbound, we are getting the error "The domain is not a valid email address or domain."

How can we add IDN Domains?

    Thanks

    Frank

    Hi,

I understand IDNs contain non-ASCII characters and therefore that input is not supported. Only regular domains names (US-ASCII) characters are supported.

    Hi,

yes IDN Domains contain non-ASCII characters, but if you are using Punycode encoding it is plain ASCII.
    See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punycode

    Sample Domain:
    "xn--mller-kva.com"

It seems that Brightmail does also not accept these Domains as Punycode and this is bad.

    Hi Frank,

sorry I missed the Punycode detail. You're actually running into a known issue. Please refer to the following document that covers it:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2008120220081854

I'd suggest you open a case with Technical Support for an eventual workaround and solution.

    Regards,

    Federico

    Hi Federico,

    thanks for your Feedback.

I think this is a problem several other users have since IDN Domains are for a while available.

The knowledge base document covers it but no solution.
Yes, seems opening a case is the way to go.

    Hi,

seems that the workaround we got from Symantec does it.
But hacking for every IDN Domain on linux console is not the way it should be.

    Please support this feature request:
