  • 1.  How to add USB NIC driver to WinPE?

    Posted Dec 01, 2008 12:40 PM

I normally use BartPE and have been successful at adding our Belkin F5D5050 USB NIC to the driver database but I cannot seem to get it to work with Ghost's WinPE.

I added the drivers to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Apllication Data\Symantec\Ghost\Template directory. Then I refreshed the WinPE from GBW and then created an ISO to burn to disc.

Have you tried usual (documented) way of importing driver to GBW via its Winpe interface? It will tell you if it has some problems with a driver.

You can put driver and GBW will perform silent import but not from the folder you put it to. Folder is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Apllication Data\Symantec\Ghost\Template\common\windrivers. But then you'll have no feedback on whether your import was successful or not.

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Eugene,

When I try adding a new driver to WinPE, I point it to the directory that has the drivers but I keep getting an error saying "Failed to import driver" "Failed to find any drivers to add"

I'm not sure what kind of files it's looking for (DOS, Packet, NDIS)?

I thought you said Winpe and Winpe drivers? GBW will import Winpe drivers - download one for Vista from manufacture, unpack it (if packed) and point GBW to the folder where you unpacked it to. GBW will search INF files to see whether this driver is suitable or not. GBW only understands NIC and storage drivers in GSS 2.5 release. These are class= net, scsiadapter and hdc.

Sorry if my last message was confusing. Yes I did exactly that. I downloaded the drivers from Belkins website and pointed GBW to that directory. There was nothing to unpack, it's just a couple files including INF that shows class = net.

But it keeps telling me there's no drivers to import.

Sometimes manufactures (Broadcom and co) create multiple INF files. Net device registers on a custom bus but it has no PCI device IDs attached to it. The other INF has a class of system and has all PCI registration IDs in it. If this is the case you can just modify second INF and change class from system to net and try importing it again.
