Hi,

you would need to install a 64 bit of OS version. as per supportabilty mentioned below

https://sort.symantec.com/public/documents/sfha/6....

For VxVM or cluster license, 6.0 has built in demo license for 60 days which is also called keyless licensing.

when you are installing the veritas product, you would be prompted to enable the keyless feature which will enable you to use the 60 days trial ..

trialware software can be found here

VxVM and VCS cluster have never been supported on Solaris x86.  What do want to test - VCS (cluster - failing from one system to aonther) or/and SF (VxVM + vxfs - storage - creating mirrors and other RAID etc).

If you put Linux on 32 bit VMWare,  SF 4.1 is the latest version that supports 32 bit ( has "Assisted Support"  until 2013-08-06), but the software and demo licecne will be very difficult to get hold of.  VCS is supported on 32 bit Linux (x86) until 5.0, but again the software and demo licecne will be very difficult to get hold of.  You can get most of above information from https://sort.symantec.com/productmatrix and https://sort.symantec.com/eosl/show_matrix.

If you just want to learn and practice VCS, then the VCS simulator is very good for this.  If you are running VMWare on a Windows client, then you can download simulator by clicking on link Veritas Cluster Server Java Console, Veritas Cluster Server Simulator, Veritas Enterprise Administrator Console at http://www.symantec.com/theme.jsp?themeid=operations_manager - you will need to sign up for a free Symantec account if you don't already have one to get this.

The simulator has been ported unofficially to MAC (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/hagui-macos) and I ported the 5.0 Linux x86 simulator to 5.1, in case you are not running VMWare on a Windows client.
