With all of the materials for Intel vPro technology on this site, vpro expert center, and other location...

I'm interested to hear how you are using the technology, what additional information you'd like to hear about (I have a number of ideas), etc.

The latest platform has been launched.   The feature I'm most excited about is KVM remote control - hardware based IP-KVM in the platform.  Want to see more?  Check out http://intelcore2010.veplatform.com

Hi, I have Dell OptiPlex 980

Hi,

I have Dell OptiPlex 980 with Vpro and I configure the dell BOIS and also Altiris CMS for using Vpro Remote control. I already set and adjusted the DNS for provisioning server and DHCP for option 15. Please see the attachment for more details of my settings. But still I can’t able to remote control starts from BOIS. I feel that there are some issues in Remote Configuration Certification but I ask with dell and they don’t have answer for it also. So I don’t know from where I get this Certificate. Or is there any other problem which is not allowing me to remote control. I would also like to know how I can use the Vpro Remote Control option without Certificate.
Any help in fixing these issues will be highly appreciated.

Are you using PSK or PKI provisioning?

Intel vPro Technology requires configuration of the management engine within the target environment.   Based on the logs and images, it appears you are trying to use Remote Configuration (PKI).   This requires a provisioning certificate to be obtained from VeriSign, GoDaddy, Comodo, etc.

The screenshot also show provisioning keys were generated - this is PSK (preshared key) approach to provisioning.

You may be interested in reviewing a recorded training I put together.

Try downloading ZIP file at http://www.vproexpert.com/E24VZ/Altiris7Trng/Altiris7Trng.zip (right click link and click "save target as")

It's about 157MB in size.

Once you download - extract to directory and open index.html via browser.   You should be presented with a Camtasia Studio 6 recording with navigation on the left and bottom.

I'm totally new - Provisioning

Terry Cutler,

I'm totally new to vPro and we are looking at starting to use it as we just started purchasing workstations with vPro inside.

I have tried to read some of the material on the Intel site but there is so much I'm not sure I'm reading the correct stuff.

I have watched a few of your videos you have posted and I'm in the process of downloading this zip to check it out also.

Here is my question we are small and do not have an enterprise certificate server.  My understanding from the OOB implementation guide you can't use remote provisioning through Altiris without a Enterprise Certificate Server.

So how can a small organization go about getting these systems setup (provisioned) for use in Altiris.  We are interested in being able to use the Remote Control, Power Features and eventually OS deployment like WinPE.  We are so small that manual provisioning is an option.

Base understanding of Altiris\vPro

An Enterprise Certificate Server is not required for vPro nor for remote configuration.

Take a look at the recorded training I posted online earlier this year.   It steps through a few items on setting up a simple test environment with manual provisioning, a few solution examples, and then discussing enterprise provisioning.
