How to automatically run backup job if the first run is failed?

Created: 29 Oct 2013 • Updated: 30 Oct 2013 | 2 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I got a problem with backup jobs in Symantec Backup Exec.

Sometimes the backup job is not successful due to  some errors.

Is there any possibility that I can set the job to auto run if the previous job has an error? Or some post command that will read the job history and if an error is detected in the job status it will run the job again.

I was thinking of running the backup job until the job status is successful..

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance...

You could try setting up error handeling rules. However, you would first need to identify the common error codes. Here is a video about how to setup

Depending on the type of failure then the in-built checkpiont restart facility may do it for you.

Although this is specific to certain causes of failure so may not meet all your requirements.

BTW you will want to be careful to ensure that you only re-run a job once as otherwise you could end up in a nasty loop i.e. job fails near start, whatever you use to re-run kicks in and re-run job fails at start, then re-run tries again ad-infinitum
