This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi there,

I need help here with DB2 cluster environment. How do I backup DB2 in clustered environment? I've gone through the Netbackup 7.0 Administration Guide DB2 for Windows but what I do found is Netbackup Cluster and not DB2 cluster. May I know is there any ways to do the backup?

Thank you

DB2 cluster is  active/standby mode or active/active mode?

it's in active/passive mode, that is all I know. Unfortunately I done have any details since I inherit this work from previous vendor with no documentation.

I would use the same method as for any other cluster:

Install NBU on each cluster node.

Create backup scripts on shared drive or else in same location on local drives.

Ensure successful forward and reverse lookup between master and db2 virtual hostname as well as between media server and virtual hostname. (Add hosts entries if DNS is not used.)

Add policy with virtual hostname in Clients tab.

Ensure all log folders exist as per NBU for DB2 manual. You may need this for initial troubleshooting.

Hope this helps.

Hi Marianne van den Berg,

You mentioned "Create backup scripts on shared drive or else in same location on local drives". Do you mean I need to create a backup script and put it into the shared drive? How about the selection of the client during the backup policy creation? Which client should I put? Both maybe?

Thank you

If you go through the NBU for DB2 manual, you will see that config files and scripts are needed on the DB2 client.

In a cluster, you need to complete exact same steps on both nodes.
I find it easier when the script exists on a shared drive - that way there is only one copy of the script to maintain and the script is always available after a failover.
The Backup Selection in the Policy will be the full path to the backup script.

As per my previous post, the Client name in the policy must be the db2 cluster virtual hostname.
