    Hi All,

Currently we are on DS 6.8 SP1 (Build 282) and would like to upgrade to DS 6.9 SP1. However, the last time we upgraded the DS it ended up turning into a complete rebuild from scratch due to some security settings not transferring properly etc. So, in an effort to avoid a similar situation what is the recommended way to completely backup the deployment server for a simple restore? I couldn't find any KB's on the subject nor any posts here. The only thought I had so far was to use another vendor's image creation software and store the image on some direct attached storage (USB drive) or to a NAS we have.

Any advice/feedback/thoughts/experiences with this would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    -Peter-

What we have done is basically to export the jobs; then import them to the new server. As far as migrating clients, I just let them connect when they are turned on and remake groups as they come on line. They boot via PXE. They are named to make this generally painless and not too time-consuming. Of course if importing jobs, you would have to copy all files over in the same structure as on the old server to make sure the jobs work. If the database program were the same on the old and the new, you could save the database and copy it into the same directory on the new server after the database program is loaded and before the new DS is installed. I did that once or twice, but that was a few years ago. One more thing we always do to make it easier to change servers is to ALWAYS put the data on a drive other than the system drive. We have done that since the "Lab Expert" days.
