This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi, I'm in the middle of deploying a replacement NetBackup 7.0 server hosted on Windows 2008 64-bit. On our previous NetBackup 6.5.6  master server we were able to install a NetBackup client and backup the master server itself. Now that any attempt to install the NBU client returns error message 'the netbackup client installation is not supported on 64-bit systems that have a netbackup server package installed' what is considered to be best practice to backup the master server ?

Thanks for any input anyone can offer.

NetBackup Client software has

NetBackup Client software has always been included in the Server software. No need for separate client software installation.

PLEASE ensure that you have a Hot Catalog Policy configured to protect the NBU databases. Catalog backup and restore is the only way to protect NBU databases.

Supporting Storage Foundation and VCS on Unix and Windows as well as NetBackup on Unix and Windows.
Handy NBU links

The master server is also a client

You don't need an additional client license to backup the master server.
