  • 1.  How can I effectivley report on SWD Events across Child SMPs?

    Posted Apr 09, 2013 10:56 AM

    Good morning,

We are in the process of moving from CMS 6.x to 7.1. Because of the size of our environment, it has been decided that we will be going with a 1 x 6 hierarchy. The current idea is that we will be spreading the clients evenly across all 6 Child SMP's. One of the big issues we need to solve is that we are used to doing heavy event reporting (Download Status, Executions, etc) in our 6.x environment. It is being recommended by our vendor that we refrain from sending event data up to the parent. I understand the reasoning behind this. However this means that our events will be spread across 6 child SMP's. This makes it very diffucult to do the kind of reporting on distributions we would like to.

I am making the assumptions that other orgs that have a similar setup would somehow create custom reports that would take advantage of linked DB's in someway. Does anyone have any good ideas or processes they have put in place to report across multiple DB's? Perhaps some howto's on pulling the data we need? I am thinking linked DB's or Automation policies of some kind?

Any thoughts or guidance would be most helpful for us.

    Thanks!
    DC

IT analytics should do this for you.  You can choose to merge the data on the parent or just leave it alone and report on it.  You can create custom IT analytics reports as well.  I would start with that approach.

Also, I'm not sure that 1 x 6 hierarchy is supported by Symantec at this time.  I think only 1 x 5.  Maybe they're changing that soon, not sure.

    Hi DC,

IT Analytics MultiCMDB does not replace hierarchy. It allows for global IT Analytics reporting without the need to replicate large amounts of data. Hierarchy is still needed for management for the top use cases. MultiCMDB capability is not hierarchy-aware. You must manually point IT Analytics to all the CMDBs that you want ITA reporting on. This operation can be done in the IT Analytics configuration page.

    Thanks Fabio,

Do you know of any good documentation in ITAnalytics beyond the standard user manual?

    Thank you
