On the Home tab of the console, I see an area called Virus Definitions Distribution. It shows what definition updates are out there and how many computers have them.

If I click on it, it doesn't actually tell me the computer names of the computers with that particular virus-definition update.

How can I tell what machines don't have up to date virus definitions?

    Hey Buck,

You can view the virus definition status by going to the client view and switching the actual view to "Protection Technology"   You can then sort the client machines by their definition versions.

On the Home screen, click on the Definition Distribution graph, which will launch a report in a new window. Scroll right down and at the bottom is a breakdown by server. Click on any server name and a table will be generated which lists the out of date clients.

Alternatively, You can do it from Monitors > Logs

That's one of the most cool parts of SEP/SEM - you can tell almost anything about a computer running it! Even down to their DNS server list. It's amazing, the reports from SEM are almost better than some inventory products!

You can sort on almost anything, setup the home or initial page to display what and how you want (to some extent, anyway)

Play with it - you'll learn to like some of the features. I use some of the info from SEP/SEM for totally unrelated things! Need to see who is logged on to a certain computer right now? SEP will tell you. Are they having DNS issues? Check to see they are pointed to the correct DNS servers - right from inside SEM.

Client View? Which tab is that on? Do you mean go to the Client Tab because I do not see "Protection Technology" there.

    dgh ...

It will not let me click on the server name. Nothing in that graph is clickable.

Click on the monitors icon, right below the "Home" icon

    Click on the logs tab

Leaving "Computer Status", "Default", and "Past 24 Hours" Click on "view log" button

Click on the definitions header to sort the log by definition date, I sort oldest to newest, might have to click the header twice. Then you can just scroll down the list to see who's out of date.

The java interface is slow so be patient.

This forum is doing wierd things today so who knows what this post will end up looking like, or if it will even post

What I was suggesting is that if you click on the "Client" tab, it will list all of the clients that the Symantec Endpoint Protection client is installed on.

You can then switch the "View" drop-down from "Default View" to "Protection Technology".   That will list the virus definitions.

    burningtower's way will also work.

Also, if you find that you're unable to do certain things in the SEP Manager, try right-clicking the application icon and "Run as Administrator", that seemed to fix a bunch of my issues.

Wow, I'm getting 3 emails every time someone posts to a thread I'm subscribed to. This just happened today. For a while, was getting nothing, now 3 for every response....

    >> try right-clicking the application icon and "Run as Administrator", that seemed to fix a bunch of my issues.<<

This is the same with the Cisco wireless management app, too. Even if you ARE the administrator, or logged in as local administrator, seems you have to right-click and "run-as" or it won't allow some functions. I've not had so much issue with this software, it's simply slow and kludgy because it's JAva and Java is slow.....

    Scotty M.

I might be crazy but I do not have a "View" dropdown at all.

That explains quite a bit, I started at MR4, so as far as I knew, the "View" had always been there :)   If you update to MR4MP1a as Sandeep suggests, it should fix that issue.
