How can I verify an exclude_list is working?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have setup an exclude list on a Linux client and named it:

/usr/openv/netbackup/exclude_list.TEST-DATA1-CO-PROD-SPLUNK-OS-SERVERA-FULLDIFF

The contents of the file are:

#exclude these
/var/log/splunk/06249-GSS-06249
/var/log/splunk/00049-GSS-00049
/var/log/splunk/00338-GSS-00338
/var/log/splunk/cold/cold/00338-GSS-00338
/var/log/splunk/cold/cold/00049-GSS-00049

...and in the policy I am backing up /var/log/splunk.

I don't think the directories are being excluded.  Should I see something on the detailed status tab?  How can I verify my exclusions are actually working? The server is on NB 7.5.0.6. The client is 7.1.0.2.

Can you just use the BAR console and browse the contents of the latest backup and see if those files are there or not?

Nate's suggestion is probably the easiest, but if you have bpbkar log on the client enabled, you will see the selections being skipped:

12:07:58.592 [19664] <4> bpbkar: INF - Excluded /test by exclude_list entry /test
